My Approach
I approach therapy from a collaborative, client-centered approach. I integrate wisdom from your experiences and social and cultural identities, as well as therapeutic approaches rooted in Attachment Theory and Interpersonal Neurobiology which emphasize the central role of relationships in healing across the lifespan.
I desire to provide an environment where you feel welcomed, safe, heard, and validated. I believe we are all better able to change and take emotional risks when we feel safe and accepted. I strive to embrace my humanness in such a way that helps you to feel comfortable doing the same. We’re all on the journey of transformation together.
I root my work in Attachment Theory, Interpersonal Neurobiology, and Polyvagal Theory and heavily draw upon several evidence-based approaches in my work with clients including Emotionally Focused Therapy and Internal Family Systems. I also enjoy facilitating space for expressive arts such as painting and Sandtray Therapy, and many clients find these more “non-verbal” approaches to be sources of great self-exploration and expression.
With children and families, I work from With children I also use Play Therapy, an evidence-based, developmentally appropriate model for children ages 3-10 to support social, emotional, and relational issues and process traumatic experiences. I support parents in building strong attachments with their children, addressing wounds that interfere with parenting, and navigating behavior challenges to develop resilient children and strong familial bonds.
Many of the families I work with have neurodiversity at play—both kids and parents—which creates unique joys and challenges. A lot of times parents come to me saying they’ve read all the books and tried all the things and they don’t understand why these behaviors haven’t changed. And while their friends say they have similar issues, these parents internally utter, “I don’t think you mean it with the same intensity I do.”
You’re not alone. Together we will figure out what works uniquely for your children and your family. We’ll focus on both on what to do and why this is happening. And with kids, I work on building connection first, and then regulation and social-emotional skills from a strengths-based approach that highlights their ever-expanding capacity.
I am grateful to be trusted with my clients’ emotional experiences and seek to honor these experiences with care.
